DIY Hydor Koralia 4 with Maxi Jet Sure Flow 1600 upgrade kit

Postby danielbui23 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 10:25 am

This is a video I made and posted it on youtube. A lot of people already know about this but I figured I would spread the word just in case some don't know. Derrick at Tanks-A-Lot didn't know about this so I put one up in his 600 gallon for him to try a few weeks ago. It's still up so he must like it.

cool..looks to have doubled the flow,,is the magnet stronger on the max jet along with a better impeller. or is it mostly the impeller?

The maxi jet magnet is longer than the Koralia and the impeller blades are wider on the 2100gph white.

tongareefer, You need alot of flow? What's the tank size?

I installed it on my 70 gallon and there was no place safe! My fish were about fly out of the tank.
If it was too low sand was everywhere, if it was too high it was sucking air like no other and if it was in the middle it was doing both.

So I installed it on my 180g 6ft tank. It was too much flow for my freshwater fish. They didn't know what to do with the current soo high! As soon as I saw all my cichlids bunched in one corner I knew it was time too take it out.

If my 180 gallon was Saltwater It would have been no problem!

for the back side of a 150 gallon reef, i get alot of stalled water flow there, currently tank is at 10x turns a hour,,how much flow would you guess it makes? ive used impellers on maxijet1200s but i know the hydor 4 would be much more flow but .... how much any guesses?

Not really for certain as the Sure flow box says the white impeller is a 2100gph. I can say Derrick's 10 foot tank (600g?) is moving sand on the other side of where the K4 is located but he did install the directional fitting to center the flow as much as possible.

I bet on your tank you might have to do the same.
